Chidinma Ekile, the Nigerian singer-songwriter who is popularly known as Chidinma, has explained why she now does Gospel music.
In a recent YouTube video, she revealed that she was born blind and didn’t open her eyes at all. Her parents tried everything they could to get her to see as a baby but everything they tried proved abortive. Finally, the family had to resort to God. Her mother got into the habit of constant prayer which has made her “a prayer warrior”.
It was around this time that “I eventually opened my eyes,” Chidinma noted. “I did, which was such a miracle.” She indicated that according to her mom, even though finally opening her eyes was much welcome news, they noticed her eyes were “blood red,” which became another worry, prompting “another round of fasting and praying, anointing oil here and there, Bibles here and there.”
The vigilance in prayer was not something her parents were used to “but they had to” get into the habit of doing “because of the situation.” According to Chidinma, “about a year ago,” she was “strongly convinced” that the time was up for her to launch “her music ministry.”
