Church member loses wife to pastor who already has three spouses

A pastor in Kumasi Adeabeba has been accused of snatching a married woman from his congregation and living with her as his fourth wife.

The pastor, Macaiah Addai, is the acting head of the Association of the 7th Day Pentecostal Assemblies in the Ashanti Region. He allegedly lured Madam Gloria Abena Amponsah away from her husband of 21 years, Mr Kweku Adjei.

Mr Adjei said he met Pastor Addai when he and his wife joined his branch at Kumasi Krofrom. He said they later moved to Adeabeba when the founder of the church died.

He said he travelled to his village near Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region to attend to some matters. He said he received a phone call that his wife had been in a car accident and rushed back to Kumasi.

He said his wife was hospitalized and Pastor Addai visited her regularly to pray for her.

He said after his wife recovered, he went back to his village. He said he was shocked when his family told him that his wife had brought them a schnapp to initiate divorce.

He said he came back to Kumasi to talk to his wife but she insulted him and refused to reconcile.

He said he reported the issue to the church elders but Pastor Addai dismissed his case and said his wife had already divorced him and given a schnapp to his family.

He said he later found out that Pastor Addai had taken his wife as his own and they were living together at the church mission house.

He said he had never wronged his wife in their 21 years of marriage and that his family had also failed to intervene.

He said Pastor Addai told him to forget about his wife and consider himself lucky that he did not kill him like King David did in the Bible after taking other people’s wives.

When contacted, Pastor Addai confirmed that he had married Gloria Abena Amponsah and that Mr Adjei was no longer her husband.

He said he despised men who abuse, cheat, and harass women like Mr Adjei who was now trying to get back Gloria.

He said Mr Adjei could go to hell or report him to BBC but he would not give up Gloria Abena Amponsah as his wife.

Gloria Abena Amponsah also spoke to this correspondent and called Mr Adjei a wicked man who abandoned her when she had an accident.

She said she had divorced him with a schnapp and that she would follow Pastor Addai even if he married 20 wives.

She said she was not afraid of his threats on social media.
