Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey in the Greater Accra region, has partnered with local agricultural advocacy organisation, Agrihouse Foundation, to organise an intensive one-day training workshop in snail farming for 25 youths at Osu in Accra.
The programme is Phase II of the monthly skills training programme, which was implemented a few years ago under the partnership. The participants were drawn from Accra and its environs and were taken through various aspects of snail farming.
They were presented with starter packs and certificates donated by the MP. Some of the topics discussed include nature of snails, snail farming systems, practical hints for snail farmers, snail structures, processing, marketing and branding.
The training programme aims to empower young people with practical skills that can help them become self-sufficient and create jobs for others. Each participant is expected to set up and grow their own commercially viable snail farms.
