Eden Hazard to leave Real Madrid by mutual consent

Eden Hazard will leave Real Madrid at the end of June 2023, after reaching a mutual agreement with the club to terminate his contract.

The Belgian winger has had a disappointing spell at the Spanish giants, failing to live up to the expectations that followed his record-breaking transfer from Chelsea in 2019.

Despite having a contract until 2024 and wanting to stay, Hazard was told by Real Madrid that he had no future at the club, leading to the consented departure.

The 32-year-old has not decided yet what he will do next, with retirement being one of the possibilities. He left Chelsea as one of their best players ever, but his time at Real Madrid has been plagued by injuries and poor form.

Hazard has barely played this season, making only six appearances in La Liga and ten in all competitions. He has scored just four goals and provided 12 assists in 54 games for Real Madrid since his arrival.

The attacker also retired from international football in December 2022, after Belgium’s disappointing exit from the 2022 World Cup in the group stage.
