GES clarifies rumors about BECE cancellation

The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for junior high school students will not be cancelled, according to the Ghana Education Service (GES).

GES stated that it is transitioning from the old objectives-based curriculum to the standards-based curriculum, which will affect the format and content of the BECE.

Dr. Eric Nkansah, the Director General of GES, made this clarification at a stakeholder meeting on the grading system by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), which conducts the BECE. He said that some people were confused by the change in curriculum and thought that the BECE would be scrapped.

The BECE is a standard exam for junior high school graduates who want to pursue senior high school education.
