The United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) will host Ghana’s Black Stars in a friendly match on October 17, 2023, at Nashville’s GEODIS Park, as part of their preparation for the Concacaf Nations League quarterfinals in November.
The USMNT announced a series of friendly matches against Germany and Ghana on their official website, as they gear up for their competitive fixtures in the regional tournament.
The USMNT will face Germany, a four-time World Cup winner, on October 14 at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, before taking on Ghana three days later in Nashville.
The last time Ghana and the USMNT met was in 2017, when Ghana lost 2-1 at Pratt & Whitney Stadium.
However, Ghana has a history of beating the USMNT on the biggest stage, having eliminated them from the 2006 and 2010 World Cups with 2-1 victories.
For Ghana, this friendly match has multiple benefits. It will help them assess their team’s readiness for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be held in Ivory Coast next year if they qualify.
Moreover, it will serve as crucial preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, which will start in November 2023.
Ghana’s national team is currently undergoing a rebuilding phase under coach Chris Hughton, with the aim of making a strong impact in the prestigious continental tournament.
As Ghana hopes to secure a spot in the AFCON, this match against a strong opponent like the USMNT will offer valuable insights and opportunities for fine-tuning their strategies.
