The FWA has announced the winners of its Footballer of the Year awards for the 2022/23 season, with Erling Haaland and Sam Kerr taking the prestigious prizes.
Haaland has been unstoppable in his first season at Manchester City, smashing the Premier League record for most goals in a single season with 35 strikes in 32 games so far.
The Norwegian sensation surpassed the previous record of 34 goals set by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole, despite playing ten fewer games than the former England stars.
Haaland’s incredible feat earned him a massive 72% of the votes from the FWA members, who are journalists from across the country. Kerr has also been in sensational form for Chelsea, becoming the first player to win the Women’s Footballer of the Year award twice in a row.
The Australian ace has netted 10 goals in the WSL this season, helping Chelsea to challenge for the title. She beat off competition from Rachel Daly and her Chelsea teammate Lauren James, receiving twice as many votes as Daly who came second.
Haaland and Kerr will be presented with their awards on Thursday 25 May at a gala dinner at the Landmark Hotel in London.
