The US Attorney’s Office has stated that Hajia4Reall, a Ghanaian influencer who was extradited from the UK to the US for allegedly scamming lonely Americans out of more than $2 million, is not guilty until proven otherwise.
The influencer, who is also a singer with the stage name ‘God’s Child’, is accused of being part of a West African group that used fake identities and online messages to trick elderly and single Americans into believing they were in romantic relationships with them.
According to pulse.com.gh, Hajia 4Reall pleaded not guilty to the charges and is expected to be released soon on a $500,000 bail with an ankle monitor for GPS tracking.
The charges against Hajia 4Reall include one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, one count of wire fraud, one count of money laundering conspiracy, one count of money laundering, one count of receipt of stolen money, and one count of conspiracy to receive stolen money. The maximum sentence for each charge ranges from five to 20 years in prison.
However, the US Attorney’s Office has clarified that the charges are only allegations and that the defendant is not guilty until proven otherwise.
Hajia 4Reall was arrested on Nov. 10, 2022, in the UK for the alleged scam and was brought to the US on Friday. She is now facing charges of wire fraud, money laundering, receipt of stolen money and conspiracy. She could spend up to 20 years in prison if found guilty of the most serious charge.
