Four people have lost their lives in different parts of the Ashanti Region after a heavy downpour on Wednesday, June 21st.
A report by Adom FM said that three people were swept away by floodwaters at Atafoa, Sepaase, and Tafo.
Another person died on Thursday, June 22, when he tried to retrieve the body of his brother who drowned at Atafoa.
The Ashanti Regional Director of NADMO, Frank Duodu, said that Wednesday’s rain was the heaviest in four months.
“We had a very difficult day yesterday as we recorded four drownings. A six-year-old boy at Tafo lost his life when he went to get his ball. A forty-seven-year-old man at Atafoa also drowned with his bicycle. A man at Sepaase was carried away by the water when he rode his motorbike through it.
“The elder brother of the man who drowned at Atafoa also lost his life when he entered the water to look for his brother’s body.”
Officials from NADMO, the National Fire Service, and some community members worked together to recover the bodies.
