The highlife music scene has lost one of its legends, Kwadwo Akwaboah, also known as ‘Akwaboah Senior’. He passed away on May 16 and his son, Akwaboah Jnr, confirmed the sad news on social media.
Many fans and celebrities have expressed their condolences to the bereaved family. Akwaboah Jnr posted a photo of his father on Twitter with the simple message, “RIP Daddy.”
Kwadwo Akwaboah was famous for his song “Awerekyekyere”, which he recently recreated with his son, a talented musician himself. The new version of the song was well-received by the public and enjoyed a lot of airplay.
Akwaboah Snr. was not only a singer but also a skilled keyboardist who played for various local and international bands. He had been suffering from glaucoma, a condition that caused him to lose his eyesight. However, he did not let that stop him from playing music and he appeared in some videos on social media showcasing his skills.
He once revealed in an interview with TV XYZ how he lost his sight. He said that he noticed a blood spot on his right eye after playing with a band and went to see a doctor who gave him an eye drop. However, the eye drop did not work and he eventually lost his vision.
