Ketu South MP calls for school closure due to flooding
Accompanied by some residents, Dzifa Gomashie (middle), the MP for Ketu South, visited some areas affected by flooding.

The Ketu South Constituency in the Volta Region has been hit hard by heavy rains and flooding that have displaced over 1,000 residents in areas such as Klikor, Agbozume, and Aflao.

Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu South, has appealed for the closure of schools in these areas to protect the children from the dangers of wading through the floodwaters.

She made this appeal on Monday, June 12, 2023, on the Citi Breakfast Show after touring some of the affected areas.

She said she was terrified by what she saw over the weekend and expressed her sympathy for the people who could not sleep in their rooms or go to their classrooms because of the water.

She said there was no place to relocate them except maybe the Municipal Assembly hall that was not flooded.

She also said she was worried that people could slip and injure themselves on the untarred roads that were covered by water.

She explained that the situation was caused by the overflow of lagoons and wetlands into the community with no outlet to the sea.

She called on relevant authorities, especially NADMO, to intervene quickly and find a lasting solution to the problem.

She said she was working to provide some temporary relief for the affected households while looking for a permanent solution.
