Leicester relegated from Premier League after West Ham win

Leicester City’s Premier League adventure is over after nine seasons, as they failed to avoid relegation despite beating West Ham United 2-1 on the final day.

The Foxes needed Everton to lose against Bournemouth to have any chance of staying up, but the Toffees secured a narrow victory that condemned the former champions to the second tier.

Leicester’s downfall was a result of a disastrous start to the season, when they lost six of their first seven games, and a dismal run of form between February and April that led to Brendan Rodgers’ sacking.

Dean Smith took over as interim manager but could not save Leicester from their fate, which contrasts sharply with their remarkable achievements in recent years.

The Foxes won the Premier League title in 2015-16 against all odds and added the FA Cup trophy in 2020-21, as well as reaching a European semi-final last season.

Leicester’s fans will cherish those memories, but they will also wonder how their club went from glory to misery in such a short span of time.
