Liverpool’s Kelleher could join Brentford amid goalkeeper shuffle. Caoimhin Kelleher may have a chance to become a regular starter in the Premier League if he leaves Liverpool this summer, as Brentford are eyeing him as a possible replacement for their current No. 1.
Kelleher has been part of Liverpool’s senior squad for four years and has served as Alisson’s deputy for three, but he is likely to seek a new challenge elsewhere as he aims to establish himself as a first-choice goalkeeper.
The 24-year-old Irishman faces tough competition from Alisson, who is only 30, tied to Liverpool until 2027, and widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
Several clubs have already shown interest in Kelleher, and this week Sky Sports confirmed that Brentford could make a move for him. This is because Brentford’s current No. 1, David Raya, is attracting attention from Man United, Tottenham, and Chelsea.
All three clubs have potential to sign a new No. 1 this summer, as their current ones are uncertain about their futures.
According to the Times, David de Gea is likely to extend his contract but is not assured of being the first choice, while The Athletic report that Hugo Lloris has received a lucrative offer from an unnamed Saudi club.
Chelsea are also looking to sign another high-profile goalkeeper this summer to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy.
Sky Sports claim that Raya is a target for all three clubs, with Brentford boss Thomas Frank valuing his goalkeeper at over £40 million.
“David has one year left [on his contract] and we will see what happens,” Frank told the Press Association on Friday. “We are very happy with David here. Everyone knows he is worth more than £40 million if anyone is interested and we are ready for any scenario.
“There is a possibility he will leave this summer maybe, for the right price, and if that happens then of course we need to be ready.”
Sky Sports claim that Brentford have also considered Nantes’ Alban Lafont and SC Freiburg’s Mark Flekken as alternatives to Kelleher.
Kelleher is also on the radar of Tottenham and Brighton, according to the Irish Independent on Tuesday.
