Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich is a target for Manchester City as they look to bolster their midfield options. The 28-year-old German international has impressed Pep Guardiola with his versatility, passing ability, and work rate. Guardiola coached Kimmich at Bayern and helped him develop into a world-class player.
Kimmich could fill the gap left by Ilkay Gundogan, who is out of contract at the end of the season and has not yet agreed to a new deal with City.
A possible swap deal involving Joao Cancelo could be on the cards, as the Portuguese defender is currently on loan at Bayern and has impressed the German champions with his performances.
City will face Brentford later today in the Premier League, but they are already planning ahead for the summer transfer window.
Kimmich has been one of the best midfielders in Europe this season, completing more passes (2,176) and touches (3,103) than any other player in the Bundesliga. He is also a threat in the final third, with 601 passes in that zone – more than anyone else in Germany’s top flight.
Kimmich has a strong relationship with Guardiola, who praised him as a perfectionist and a versatile footballer. Kimmich also spoke highly of his former boss, saying he loves beautiful football and made him a better player.
It remains to be seen if Kimmich would be open to a move to England, but he would certainly fit in well with Guardiola’s style and philosophy.
