Man Utd are in talks with Chelsea over signing their midfielder Mason Mount, who is eager to play under Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.
Mason Mount could be on his way to Man Utd after they made a second bid of £50m for the Chelsea midfielder.
The offer includes an initial payment of £45m plus £5m in bonuses, but Chelsea are demanding more money up front for their academy graduate.
The two clubs are still negotiating over the final details of the deal, but Man Utd are not willing to overpay for a player who has only one year left on his contract and has not shown any interest in renewing it.
Mount wants to join Man Utd and work with Ten Hag, who admires his qualities as a versatile, intelligent and hard-working midfielder. Mount faced Ten Hag’s Ajax team when he was on loan at Vitesse Arnhem in the 2017/18 season.
Chelsea need to sell players to balance their books after spending £600m in the last two transfer windows under owner Todd Boehly.
Man Utd’s first bid of £40m for Mount was rejected by Chelsea but they hope that their improved offer will be enough to seal the deal.
Mount is a product of Chelsea’s youth system and has made 195 appearances for the club, scoring 27 goals. He has also won the Champions League, the Super Cup and the Club World Cup with Chelsea.
He is expected to agree personal terms with Man Utd without any problems if the two clubs can reach an agreement.
