Netflix also dropped the first official teaser for the live-action series, which you can watch above. It doesn’t show any actual scenes from the show, but it still evokes nostalgia and excitement for longtime fans.
The live-action series is described as an “authentic adaptation” of the original animated series, which is set in a mystical world where people can control (aka “bend”) the elements. The story follows 12-year-old Aang, who wakes up from a frozen sleep to discover that he is now the last surviving airbender. He embarks on a journey with his friends to save the world.
The live-action series stars Gordon Cormier as Aang, Dallas Liu as Prince Zuko, Kiawentiio as Katara and Ian Ousley as Sokka. Albert Kim serves as showrunner and executive producer along with Dan Lin, Lindsey Liberatore and Michael Goi.
The original animated Avatar series ran for three seasons (2005–2008), followed by a spinoff series The Legend of Korra, which lasted for four seasons (2012–2014).
