No drumming no noise AMA sets rules for Ga Traditional Council period

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced that the annual period of silence and respect for the Ga Traditional Council (GTC) begins today Monday 15th May and ends on Thursday 15th June 2023.

The AMA has issued some rules to ensure peace, harmony and national security during this time.

The rules include “Churches must conduct their activities inside their buildings and avoid using musical instruments. Loudspeakers must not be placed outside churches, mosques and pubs. Street preachers must stop their activities during this time.

“Religious groups and the Traditional Authorities must respect each other and prevent their followers from making insulting and provocative comments about each other’s beliefs and practices.

“Other rules by the GTC include a prohibition on funeral ceremonies and their related activities. Only a designated task force that consists of AMA staff, the Ghana Police Service and Representatives from the Traditional Councils with tags can enforce the noise reduction in the metropolis.”

The Assembly said “we urge all people, towns and villages within the Ga Traditional Area to cooperate and comply with the directive accordingly during this period.”
