Pizzaman Workers Get Five-Year Jail Term for Taking Chicken and Oil. A court in Kumasi, Ghana, has sentenced two workers of Pizzaman, a Ghanaian pizza company, to five years in prison for stealing from their employer.
The two men, Seidu Karim and Rashid Abdullah, confessed to taking 20 cartons of chicken wings and two gallons of cooking oil from the restaurant’s warehouse over a period of two months. The theft was discovered by the executive chef of Pizzaman, who received a tip-off from his warehouse manager on May 1, 2023.
TWO WORKERS OF PIZZAMAN JAILED 5 YEARS EACH FOR STEALING Two employees of Pizzaman have been sentenced to 5yrs imprisonment for stealing 20 boxes of chicken wings and gallons of cooking oil at Pizzamans warehouse located at Nyankyerenease. Prosecuting officer ASP Jonas Newlove Adjei speaking to the court presided over by H/H Fred Obekyere Esq that on Monday May 1, 2023 Complainant who is the executive chef of Pizzaman received a call from his warehouse manager that two (2) Oki cooking oil and eight (8) boxes of chicken wings have been stolen from the warehouse. The chef upon hearing the news quickly went to take their daily stock and discovered that indeed the items has been stolen. In an emergency meeting the same day workers were asked to provide the stolen items, upon interrogation Rashid Abdullah said he saw Seidu Karim hiding two gallons of Oki cooking oil behind the fence wall. Seidu Karim in his defense stated that he saw Rashid Abdullah hiding two boxes of chicken wings at the back of the fence wall as well. The stolen items were retrieved from them and they were later handed over to the Asuoyeboah police command where investigations were conducted. In the course of investigations Seidu Karim confessed that in a period of two months he has stolen twenty (20) gallons of Oki cooking oil from the company. He then conducted a stock check and confirmed that the items were missing. He confronted the suspects at an emergency meeting the next day and reported them to the police. The case was heard by Judge Fred Obekyere, Esq., who found them guilty and handed them the jail term.
The incident has sparked a backlash from Ghanaian radio host Abeiku Santana, who slammed the CEO of Pizzaman for being harsh and insensitive to his workers. He said on Okay FM that the CEO should have deducted the cost of the stolen items from their salaries instead of sending them to jail. He questioned the CEO’s leadership skills and his ability to inspire the youth.
