Sarkodie, the acclaimed rapper and multiple VGMA winner, has always shown his love for children and his desire to have his own someday. However, in a 2015 interview with Delay, a popular TV host, he said he was waiting for the right time when he could fully dedicate himself to his fatherly duties.
The interview showed the ‘Countryside’ rapper saying that he wanted to settle down and have kids at that time, but he had some things to sort out first. He said he needed to calm down with his music career and his lifestyle as an entertainer, because marriage required more commitment.
“I like babies, I like kids, I wish I could have a baby and the baby would never grow up and I could take care of the baby while she stays a baby.
“However, I have few things that I want to sort out. Like when it comes to music and the things that I have already started. I need to calm down with my life because marriage is more of commitment and I can’t be living my life just as I’m living now.
“I can choose to be wherever I want to be and do what I want to do as an entertainer but when you commit yourself, especially when you have a baby, I never want to miss a day in my child’s life. I want to walk my child and I always say she because I want a daughter,” he said.
Sarkodie also expressed his admiration for the joy and pride that come with raising children. However, when Delay asked him if he had ever dated anyone on TV, he firmly denied it and said, “We can’t talk about that. I can say for a fact with you that I have never had anything to do with anyone on TV.”
This interview has gained attention on social media after Yvonne Nelson’s claim in her new book, “I am not Yvonne Nelson” that she got pregnant for Sarkodie in 2010 and had an abortion after he refused to accept responsibility. According to her book, Sarkodie and his manager at the time accompanied her to a clinic at Mamprobi to terminate the pregnancy. That was after a failed attempt with pills recommended by a friend.
