Shooting incident in Tamale over chieftaincy dispute

A community in Tamale Metropolis, Yong Dakpemyili, witnessed a shooting incident on Thursday, May 18, 2023, according to local sources.

The sources said the incident was caused by a chieftaincy dispute between two brothers in the town that has been going on for a long time.

Abdul Wahab Dawuda, the Assemblyman for the community, told Citi News that some people were injured in the shooting that occurred when one side was performing a traditional ritual.

He said the situation was calm at the moment, but he was unsure about what might happen next.

The Northern Regional Police Command said they went to the town to maintain peace and order, but they did not make any arrests.

The residents are still in fear and the normal activities of the town have been affected.

The conflict between the two brothers has resulted in deaths, injuries and damage to properties worth thousands of Ghana Cedis over the years.
