Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s spokesperson, Dr. Gideon Boako, has dismissed allegations that his boss is a British citizen while serving as Ghana’s second-in-command.

Some social media posts claimed that the Vice President acquired British citizenship when he worked in the United Kingdom years ago.

Dr. Boako refuted these claims in a Facebook post on Friday, June 9, and urged Ghanaians to ignore them.

He said that Vice President Bawumia has never held any citizenship other than Ghanaian and that he does not violate Ghana’s laws by holding dual citizenship.

“The Office of the Vice President has noticed a malicious social media accusation that the Vice President is a British citizen while holding the position of Vice President, which is against Ghana’s laws.

“We want to make it clear that Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia is not a British citizen and has never been a British citizen or any other citizen besides being a Ghanaian. The accusation should be treated with contempt,” he wrote on Facebook.
