Tragedy strikes as Adentan building collapses - Supervisor arrested

A three-storey building collapsed in Adentan, Accra on Monday, killing one person and injuring three others. The supervisor of the building, Ganiyu Abdul, has been arrested by the police.

The building was under construction at the time of the collapse. It is located near the Kpogas furniture store and the Adentan footbridge, around the SDA church junction and the West African Hardware Company.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said that one of the pillars of the building was crushed by a concrete mixer, which resulted in a loss of balance in the building.

The Municipal Chief Executive for La-Nkwantanang Madina, Jennifer Agyabeng, has directed the confiscation of the equipment of the contractors after it emerged that the project had no permit.

The NADMO director for the Assembly, Foster Arthur, said that the police have commenced investigations into the matter.

The two injured persons who were treated and discharged have been identified as Mohammed Fuseini and Yakubu Iddrisu. The deceased has been identified as Mumuni Yakubu.

The police are still investigating the cause of the collapse.
