The race to become the next flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has intensified as two more Members of Parliament have joined the fray.
Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and Joe Ghartey, who represent Assin Central and Essikado Ketan constituencies respectively, have officially submitted their forms to contest the NPP presidential primaries.
Their forms were picked by their representatives on Thursday, June 1, at the party’s headquarters in Accra.
The Campaign Manager of Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Kwame Owusu, dismissed surveys that ranked his candidate third behind Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and former Trade Minister Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen.
Kennedy Ohene Agyapong later received his forms and denied rumours that he was working for another candidate.
He expressed his gratitude to his team and said his forms should end reports that he was only creating a path for another candidate.
Joe Ghartey, on the other hand, said Ghana would be better under his leadership as President.
The forms were obtained at GH¢50,000 each.
The deadline for submission is Saturday, June 24, when nominations close.
So far, 10 aspirants have submitted their forms to vie for the primaries.
They include: Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko, Francis Addai-Nimoh, Kojo Nsafoah Poku, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku and Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto.
The others are Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, Ken Ohene Agyapong and Joe Ghartey.
