Ghanaian actress and filmmaker Yvonne Nelson has opened up about her past in a new memoir called “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson”. In the book, she confessed that she had a secret abortion in 2010 when she was expecting a child with rapper Sarkodie.
This revelation has caused a lot of controversy and backlash from some people who doubted her intentions and ethics. Yvonne Nelson responded to the critics by saying that she has more stories to tell and that they should ignore or avoid her book if they are not comfortable with it.

Yvonne Nelson shared her experience on pages 88-95 of Chapter Eight of her book, which was launched at Peduase Lodge on Sunday, June 19, 2023. She said that she met Sarkodie at Tema, where he was still living with his mother. She said that they had a brief relationship but he denied responsibility for the pregnancy when she informed him. He said that it would ruin him and his career and that the only option was to terminate it.
Yvonne Nelson said that Sarkodie and his manager at the time accompanied her to a clinic at Mamprobi to get rid of the pregnancy. This was after she tried to abort it with pills recommended by a friend but they did not work. She said that she regretted her decision and that if she could turn back time, she would have kept it.
